Fernando and I went out Saturday night to take some shots in Tempe, AZ on Mill Avenue. As I walked towards Mill Avenue I noticed an interesting reflection off a building onto the brick walkway and captured the image here:

This was very near the time of sunset and I really like the warmth in the color and the pattern of the bricks against the shadows. My intent that evening was to shoot people on Mill and this ended up being the best shot of the night. Sometimes you end up with something interesting by accident.

I am working on another portrait of Aimee from our Studio Lighting class this time with a lot more time spent in post production (Photoshop). I’ll have that posted by Wednesday. ASU Football starts this weekend – I can’t wait for the season to start – Go Devils!

I had the opportunity this past weekend to attend a studio lighting class and had a blast. The class provided the opportunity to learn about studio lighting and offered several hours of hands on work with a model and different lighting setups. I highly recommend the course if you are interested in learning a lot about studio lighting in a single day. My friend Mark teaches the course and you can find out more about this class offered at Snapfactory here:

This picture of our model Aimee is one of my favorites from the class:

Studio lighting is something I really want to get into and with the light stand, umbrella and other gear I picked up today I will get a chance to shoot some portraits here at the house and do some on location work with an off camera flash. If any friends or family out there would like to be the photographic subject for my endeavors please let me know.

I have been doing a lot of reading on Strobist and it is a great resource for off camera flash photography (check out the Lighting 101 link on their site).

The 2nd year of my MBA program starts a week from this Friday – it’s going to be a challenging year but the good news is I am done in May. I’ll have some new pictures up by the end of this weekend displaying the results of my work with the new lighting gear.
