My New Camera

I had a co-worker interesed in buying my Rebel XTi which enabled me to upgrade  to the Canon 1D Mark III. I was looking hard at the 5D but I couldn’t ignore the deal offered on the 1D Mark III. It doesn’t have the full frame sensor like the 5D or the 1DS Mark III but it’s a 1.3x crop factor instead of the Rebel’s 1.6x crop factor. It also has the new DIGIC processors, self cleaning sensor and can shoot from ISO 50 to ISO 6400. The ability of this camera to shoot at high ISO’s while keeping the image fidelity intact is amazing. Moving up the this new camera has been an experience – I thought I had a handle on the Xti but everything is different with this camera – menus, focus point options, etc. I am still reading the manual a lot to figure out how to dial this all in.

Canon EOS 1D Mark III

I am working on posting some pics taken with the new camera – by the end of this weekend I’ll definitely have some stuff up. I am figuring out how to integrate some of the images I have on Flickr here as well as getting some new pics online.

Hello,

This is my first blog entry so where do I start? I’ll start with the reasons for setting this whole thing up:

  • My continued interest in photography and the desire to expand my skills in this craft. Someday, I hope to be in a position where my photography will inspire people and maybe even make some money to help pay for all this photography gear I have now  In the meantime, I’ll post some of my favorite photographs here and what else I am doing to get into the “business” of photography. Please provide feedback on what you see!
  • A place to talk about Books, Current Events, Music, Movies, Travel or anything else that I come across that some of you might enjoy.
  • Yet another avenue to keep in touch with family and friends that Michelle and I don’t get a chance to see very often.

I would also like to take a minute to thank Mark Wallace for helping me get this site up and running and his continued support of my interest in photography. He’s been a mentor and more importantly a great friend.

I hope you decide to come back and visit as I plan on keeping this page updated frequently. When you stop by don’t be shy about posting comments, suggestions for improvements(please!) or anything else that’s on your mind.

Who knows where all of this will end up but I am definitely going to enjoy the journey!
