I returned to Mill Avenue today knowing that I was a few days late with my week 8 submission. I actually did take some pictures this past weekend but felt that I needed to push myself to find something better. I ran into Jessica Jean performing on Mill Avenue and she had quite the setup on the corner with a speaker, lighting, etc. Her voice was strong and I was quite impressed with what I heard. I introduced myself and asked if I could take a few photographs and she was very friendly telling me to go for it. I personally think my Week 8 photograph below is my best from the photographs taken of people performing on Mill Avenue.

This next shot was edited in Silver Efex Pro after a few adjustments in LightRoom. I used a Holga effect for this (a Holga is an inexpensive toy camera that has some interesting characteristics: vignetting, distortions, etc). I spent a long time working on various B&W adjustments to this image and the Holga effect seemed to capture the emotion in this picture the best.

Thanks to Jessica Jean for allowing me to take these pictures and for the CD that has the two singles “Waiting/Anticipating” and “So Many Times”. I definitely plan on enjoying them at home!

I recently picked up a used Profoto Acute 600BR pack and head and have spent the last couple weeks trying it out at home. I had a chance to meet my friend Mark up on Mill Avenue and what started out as a get together for food turned out to be my first photoshoot with the new equipment. Sheena was a model that Mark had worked with before and she was available on extremely short notice. All of these shots were taken with a single strobe with a beauty dish mounted on it.

This is my favorite from the shoot, converted to B&W – this is my Week 7 submission.

Here is a another shot:

This shot Mark had the pack in a backpack and walked the strobe with Sheena towards me as I fired off several shots. With the pack being so light and being able to trigger the flash via the built in pocket wizard it really opens up a lot of possibilities.

Finally, Mark captured a few iPhone shots of me working with Sheena.

A huge thanks to Mark for being my assistant on the shoot and introducing me to Sheena. She was a lot of fun to work with and I definitely plan on working with her again in the future!
